Artist Statement
I work in an expressive, intuitive approach to abstraction.
In a digital / post-digital landscape increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and mediated experience, my work foregrounds the physical, instinctive act of painting as a distinctly human mode of perception and response.
Through gesture and mark-making, I explore the relationships between color, texture, tone, and light as carriers of emotional and sensory information. Each painting develops through an open, responsive process in which intuition guides composition and form emerges through accumulation, revision, and restraint. Rather than pursuing predetermined outcomes, I allow the work to arrive at its own internal logic.
I work across oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, tempera, and watercolor, often combining materials within a single body of work. This material flexibility reflects my interest in painting as an embodied practice — one that values touch, variation, and presence over mechanical precision or replication.
My paintings function as records of attention: singular, unrepeatable moments shaped by human decision, movement, and feeling. In contrast to digital systems that prioritize speed, efficiency, and prediction, my work insists on slowness, ambiguity, and the enduring relevance of the hand-made image.
Biography
My practice has grown from a lifelong engagement with art and the physical act of making.
I have been painting since childhood, first studying with a local neighborhood artist and later being influenced by remarkable regional artists including Wayne Maslin, Gail Barnfather, Lynne Saad, and Juan Alonzo.
I studied painting and photography at Bard College, where I studied under Stephen Shore and Larry Fink. My background in photography continues to shape my sensitivity to composition, rhythm, and light, even as my primary focus remains painting as an embodied, material practice grounded in gesture and intuition.
I continued developing both figurative and abstract work while living in New York City, and later living in Johannesburg, South Africa. Living and working in these environments profoundly shaped my approach to color, movement, and scale, and reinforced my commitment to painting as a sustained, exploratory practice.
I am now based in Seattle, Washington.
Commissions
I create original, large-scale contemporary abstract paintings designed for residential and commercial interiors.
As a professional artist, I enjoy working in partnership with clients. I explore balance, movement, and restraint through large-scale abstract compositions.
Each piece is created with a considered palette and subtle mineral accents, allowing the work to complement architectural spaces rather than dominate them. The paintings are designed to bring quiet visual impact to residential and commercial interiors, offering scale, texture, and presence without visual noise. Works are available individually or as coordinated groupings, with commissioned variations offered to align with specific palettes or projects.
For inquiries about artwork or to discuss commissioned pieces tailored to your specific requirements, please feel free to get in touch with me. I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with you on creating distinctive art pieces that resonate with your vision and space.
